1001Buku?s Open House at Jakarta Book Fair 2003
During its first year of existence 1001buku tries to collect and distribute books as many as possible for children that don?t have access to good reading materials.
To celebrate its first anniversary and promote how its volunteers work, 1001buku held an Open House and the 5th SPD (Sorting, Packing and Distribute) on Sunday, May 25th 2002 from 9 am to 2 pm. SPD, which is usually held at a volunteer?s residence, on that day was held in the middle of JBF 2003?s crowd that everyone could see what kind of books it got and how they are distributed.
In addition, 1001buku opened a stand (as a part of Indonesia Membaca?s) during the 9 days of Jakarta Book Fair 2003. There were two BDBs (Book Drop Box) in strategic places - at entrance and in front of the stand - and the volunteers handed out flyers to all visitors to give information on how to donate new or used books. A great relationship between volunteers was obviously shown here. Most of the time, volunteers are able to communicate in cyber world using the mailing list only, but on that day they were able to meet face-to-face and discuss freely .
The result from 9 days of Jakarta Book Fair 2003: about 1800 books and magazines, recruitment of 50 new volunteers and 40 new libraries registered to be the books receiver. It means a huge addition to volunteers? tasks, but there is a great feeling because 1001buku is known better. Hopefully more books are gathered so the volunteers could do their job even better, that is, to deliver good book to children all over Indonesia.
