First Book Delivery to Aceh

In support of the program ?1001buku For Aceh? which will be launched at the beginning of April 2005, the volunteers of 1001buku have been carrying out preliminary activities since January 2005. Those activities included collecting books for Aceh and establishing partnerships with other institutions or parties.

One of the activities was the 1st SPD (Sorting ? Packing ? Distributing) for Aceh, which took place at the house of Indra (i.e. one of our volunteers) in Pondok Gede. The SPD was successful in sorting and packing 9 boxes of textbooks for student of SD ? SMP ? SMA, weighing more than 110 kg. Distribution to Aceh was provided by the International Organization for Migration (IOM, www.iom.int). This is one of the organizations that has developed a close partnership with the United Nations in handling refugees and migration affairs due to natural disasters. All the boxes were transported to the IOM warehouse on 15 February 2005, and were sent to the People?s Crisis Center Aceh (PCC-Aceh), which is our local partner.

Those books arrived safely in Aceh at the beginning of March.
